Mid Range State Championship -- Get ready!
That's right folks - the Minn. Mid Range State Championship is coming up this weekend. It may be early in the year but you all had opportunity to shoot prone matches last weekend at Eau Claire, and at the Mpls Rifle Club to get practiced up, so no whining!

That's right folks - the Minn. Mid Range State Championship is coming up this weekend. It may be early in the year but you all had opportunity to shoot prone matches last weekend at Eau Claire, and at the Mpls Rifle Club to get practiced up, so no whining!
Head on down to NorthStar Rifle Club, just North of Red Wing, MN on Hwy 61, Saturday May 2, morning for a 9:00 start on the 300 yd line. This match is a traditional sling shooting prone match. Each shooter will fire 2 sighters and 20 shots for record at the 300, 500 and 600 yd lines, using "Any sights".
Following the individual matches, there will be a 4 person team match of 20 shots per shooter. Sunday May 3rd,
competitors will again be on the firing line for the "Iron sight" part
of this championship weekend. The format will be the same as on
Saturday.

Highpower Matches at Eau Claire
A host of shooters made the short trip over to the Eau Claire Rifle Club for the weekends matches. 31 sling shooters and 11 F-class shooter fired the Saturday Mid Range prone competition. Morgan "Dead Eye" Dietrich took top honors firing a 794-45x for the win in the sling and Iron sight division. Morgan was followed, just a few pts back, by Steve Knutson with a 792, and then Randal Gregory shooting a 789 for the 4 matches. Bradley Yliniemi also fired a 789 for a win in the hotly contested master class, and James Fernandez whipped the Expert class like a rented mule with his 772-36x score. I don't think Jim will be sandbagging in the EX class too much longer with that kind of performance.
The F-class winner was Ryan Pierce 794-32x shooting in the "open" division, followed by Pat Scully 790-35x. Pat's noteworthy performance at the 2015 Berger SW Long Range Nationals shows shows he can be competitive with the best shooters in the U.S.. Top western F-class shooter Al Rosenthal remarked to me -- "Pat always brings his 'A' game".
Sunday's Over the Course match was won by Bradle Ylimeni, (master unclassified) who fired a 774-29x, followed by Josh Hanrahan 762-12x, and Jim Schonke 758-12x

torch has been mostly passed at Eau Claire National Rifle Club. Long
time runner of matches at Eau Claire, Ron Berg, has passed the torch to
Jim Melville. Jim has been doing programs, squadding & results
under Ron's expert guidance for starting his 2nd year in 2015. From what
I have seen so far Jim has things well in hand. And Jim's wife has been
learning the ropes with posting scores etc. So it looks like Eau
Claire is good to go for another 30 years!

Minneapolis Rifle Club 200 Yard
Smallbore Match Results
April 28 and 29 brought the first annual 200 yard smallbore two-day prone
match to the Minneapolis Rifle Club. 80
shorts for record were shot on Saturday and Sunday. The match is shot on the NRA A21 target. The target is a decimal target with 12 inch
bull and a 1 inch X ring. This target is
about one-half the size of the SR 200 yard high power target. A little bit of wind can move you into the 9
ring.
Match turnout was light but all the shooters are looking forward to the one day match on October 10, 2015. Erik Rhode claimed single high target for the weekend with a 200 – 10X and honors as match winner.

Minneapolis Rifle Club has open NRA match practice on Tuesday evenings,
shooting starts at 5:30PM. The rotating
schedule starts off at 200 yards shooting standing and sitting rapid fire (44
rounds total). The following Tuesday is
300 yard night featuring 300 yard prone rapid fire & prone slow fire on the
600 yard reduced target (MR63) (44 rounds).
To mix up the fun, “Shooters Choice” evenings are offered (44 rounds). Finally, MRC works with Gopher Rifle &
Revolver Club – with the MRC crew traveling to Gopher to shoot 600 yards
nights. Fees are modest. MRC members pay $3.00/day or $25.00 for the
